Javelin in now becoming a popular sport for UK schools, sports clubs and local authorities due to the increase in participation from the backdrop of the Olympic Games. The javelin run up is made out of EPDM Polymeric recycled rubber and this is sometimes known as Tartan surfacing or sprayed rubber EPDM surface. The dimensions of the runway is a minimum length of 30m with a maximum length of 36.5m. It has a width of 4.3m with 50mm white lines which create a throwing arc. The throwing arc has a radius of 8m and the runway is marked with 2 white parallel lines which are 4m apart.
