All Weather Sports Pitches, Rejuvenating Maintenance

All weather pitches are designed to last a significant number of years but in order to do this, the system needs to be properly maintained and looked after. When the sport pitch gets tired, a rejuvenation and renovation can be required. One of the ways to revitalise the sports area is to deep clean and remove any algal squidge, sporn and moss.

If the surface is an Astro turf synthetic all weather artificial grass, then there are a number of ways that this can be achieved. The removal of the contaminated sand is one way to do this. The sand could be removed by an air compressor or jet wash and then replaced with new sand. This would ensure that the surface would be free draining and could prevent flooding.

There are also other types of ball court surfaces. EPDM Polymeric / Tartan surfacing is a popular MUGA surface. This is perfect for sports like tennis and netball as it has a degree of ball bounce due to its recycled rubber chipping make up. Asphalt Macadam surfacing is another Multi use games area surface that is used in the UK. Made up to a specified depth and formation, this surface is a truly hard wearing option.

This surface can take numerous types of footwear without getting damaged and can also be coated with anti slip paints and be game lined marked to suit numerous sports like basketball and football. All of these sports pitches can be cleaned using water and washing up liquid but bigger stains and more in depth cleaning may be required.

Other pitch repairs can include complete re surfacing, surface repairs, perimeter repairs and new coatings may all be required for the pitch rejuvenation and upgrading. If the surface that you has becomes slippy, hard ( if not designed to be), is suffering from a lack of porosity, the surface floods and is not fun to play on any longer then a possible maintenance schedule may need to be looked at. The size and dimension of the pitch does not dictate the type of cleaning and maintenance method that will be used by the client / contractor.
