Algal Squidge Causes Flooding To All Weather Pitches

All weather pitches are commonly used for MUGA multi use games areas, with many different surfaces as they can cater for many different sports on the same surface, in the same area. These sports can include tennis, netball and football and a popular type of sports pitch surfacing is sand filled / sand dressed synthetic Astroturf artificial grass, as these can provide a very realistic but long term playing system.

However, these systems require maintenance from time to time, in order to keep the system as it was when it was installed. In times of bad weather, over time, these systems can develop algal squidge, sporn and mud onto the system and it occurs when the surface is damp, becomes hard underfoot and is moist.

This can cause the STP / ATP to flood as the surface has lost its porosity and drainage capacity. The rejuvenate, upgrade and all weather pitch regeneration is carried out by removing and replacing the contaminated sand infill / dressing and replace with new clean silica sand, to the correct specification, design and depth. There are many different sizes of sports pitches which mean that this remedy works can be carried out on many different size of pitch.

Soft Surfaces Ltd have completed these works on pitches from 38m x 18m to 105 x 70m and have been in many locations like school, sports clubs and parks. Algal squidge and mud filled contaminated sand can be extracted by either jet wash, or better still, air on an air compressor. Once these works have been completed, the astro – turf revitalisation and rejuvenation will be fantastic and Soft Surfaces Ltd are happy to discuss your projects with you.
