All Weather Surfacing Sports Ball Court Area

AWP aka All weather pitch is a sports court that is able to be used all year round. There are several types of surfaces an all-weather surface can fall under and the design is therefore very important because each project has its own installation issues whether it be access to the surrounding areas.

The construction might need to be designed with extra sports drainage if it falls to the bottom of a valley or the design might need to realise the extent use it might get played on because obviously a public park installation will need to be more hard wearing than a private court installed in an individual back garden.

The project could be an old astro turf plastic sports pitch renovation that has aged and is in need of a replacement sports surface resurfacing and therefore the refurbishment of the sports pitch might need to be taken into account with whether the synthetic turf needs to be ripped up and recycled.

The rip out of old astroturf should be recycled for the environment and this renovation or rejuvenation of the sports pitch resurface is where soft surfaces can help in the planning and  consultation of the new sports surface area because the initial plan and design could save the client thousands.

Types of Surface

The all weather surfaces that we can install vary from macadam surface, polymeric surface, wetpour rubber surface, wet pour impact absorbing flooring, sand dressed synthetic turf sports grass, sand filled synthetic turf, third generation (3G) synthetic turf, 4th generation synthetic turf (4G) to needlepunch artificial grass. All these products can be made in different ways being a monofilament fibre, fibrillated fibre or nylon fibre.

The different types of synthetic sports surfaces all cater for varied sports and it is the primary sport that is needed when the design of the sports pitch is produced. Sports like football, futsal, rugby, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, netball, tennis, rugby league, rugby union, 5-a-side football and athletics might be played on the surfaces and also the competition level is important to see if the tests need to meet FA, FIFA 1 star, FIFA 2 star, IRB, RFU, ITF, FIH or sport England standards.

In the testing it is important within the design, construction phase that we know whether a sports surfacing shockpad is required because sometimes this is required to meet the playing performace or the head impact criteria aka HIC test. Again there are several types of shockpads you can install from an insitu rubber shockpad, europave shock pad, foam shockpad, matchpad shock pad, rebounce shock pad, brock shockpad to a SBR rubber crumb shockpad.

Within the design of these areas we construct the groundworks whether it be a new grassed area that includes a new sub base to be constructed with excavation, groundworks, edging and drainage. The surfacing could be any of the following – fake turf, playground surfaces, sports surfacing, MUGA surface, cushioned acrylic surface, porous macadam, ball court flooring, sports grass, multi-use sports courts, polymeric surfaces, tennis surfacing, synthetic grass, 3g grass, astro turf, all weather pitch and third generation synthetic turf.
